Learning Illustration: 6 : The Last Class - Patterns and File Formats

So it was the last class of 'basics of Illustration' from Mr Dan presented by Envato+. The 3 hours course took me quite a long time to finish. But then I didn't want to hurry at all. I was doing logos, making my Fiverr, Upwork, Behance, dribble etc. Doing digital marketing as well. Even tho I am okay with the pace, I could be more consistent with the classes and could finish it at least a week earlier.

In this last class from Envato+ of the basic of illustrator, we were taught to make Patterns. Patterns are amazing to enhance any artwork by a big margin. Dan made the pattern with the alphabet M. I was going to do with D. So first created the illustration of the alphabet D.

Then adding offset path to widen up. Copy a version of the letter and reflect it to give it the look of opposite letters.

Then the magic happened. From the tools at the top, opening the Pattern window and selecting "Make" crates so many options to create a variety of patterns. Just had to tweak here and there to see which looked better and came closer to the needed pattern.

I could already imagine the possibilities I can reach with my artworks using these patterns.
Next, we learned Image tracing. Converting rasterized images into automated vectors. Then using the black and white image tracing to create a Black and white vector image. And by removing the white part, stencil art could be formed. While Dan had done to his photo, I did it with a photo of my teen period.

The class was summed up with all the formats we can use to save or export the illustrations. PNGs SVGs, PDFs, EPSs, JPGs etc. Then there is Asset export, which is cool to export different icons/objects in one same artboard in different formats without deleting and undoing the existing ones.

The next plan for learning illustration might be another video from Mr Dan, where he talks about the most important tools in illustration. Then advanced illustration learning videos, enrolling into Alison digital, course videos dedicated towards pictorial logos and abstract minimal logos. Time will tell.
I will see you guys soon. Till then, take care.

"A Hello" - illustration by Dex

Remember what I said in the last blog? The flag with the text created in the last class,  that gave me an idea for my next illustration. So I started with a similar box of colours to create the art I was visioning.             My idea was to wrap the boxes and clone them and place each other upside down to make a 'perspective view'. And then draw a girl and a guy sitting inside the box minding their own business while their pets being social. Might be the start of a Hello.       This was the sketching process. Of course not the initial concept sketch. That one is way too gibberish to understand.             After colouring, it would look better I promise.         After colouring and shading, the task was to create their pets. A furry dog for the lady and a brown bigger doggo for the guy. The concept was kind of like this. Now, to bring them to lively dogs, colour...

Learning Illustration with YouTube: My Journey in Adobe Illustration : 1

So I have been making some logos for a while now. But it's incomplete without learning to make it the proper way. And there comes the Vector Art. Installed Adobe Illustration. Had to go for the cc6 version as my pc runs on win 8.1 and the newer versions require the pc to be on windows 10. (God I hate win 10).  So later I came to the realisation that the cc6 and the older versions are incapable of turning the corners of an object to rounded ones. One must copy the shape, transform it to a rounded cornered one from the drop-down window, use the tool "Slice" and replace the target. If it's going over the head for some people, bear with me, please.  I had to install the newer version cc 17. I think that is the latest update as far as it doesn't ask you to have your windows upgraded to 10 but it comes with a new feature. The 'rounding corner option' introduced from this version turned to be a saviour and let you bypass all the 'to-dos' tasks mentioned e...

Making Cartoon Aeroplanes for a game in Playstore

My brother is seriously a workaholic. Sometimes I worry about him for his disregard for foods while working. Whenever he takes a leave or have a holiday, he sits in front of the laptop, starts working on codings for rest of the day. He makes apps for android devices. I must say, I found the apps quite good for someone who's only experienced for a year. I am proud of him. I love the passion for learning. It helps us grow. Anyway, so my bro has made this game. The game is in the alpha stage. Although it's already in the Playstore  (click to check) , he is changing a whole lot of the game. That includes the core design of the models. It's a fun casual a-good-time-killing game that involves a mini plane that flies on an endless loop. The player has to dodge the obstructions as they fly and collect points.  My bro Sour knows that I am learning to draw and create vector models. He gave me a project on making the model of the aeroplane, but with 5 diff colours. Red, Blue, Green...
